A new RPG system

A sample flaw: Addiction

Living Myth is a system that uses flaws.  These give you back character points which you can spend on other things.  Some flaws require “Will checks”, which is a roll of your Will attribute against a certain number of dice.  If you fail the Will check you succumb to the effects of the flaw, if you succeed you do not succumb but the difficulty is increased by one dice next time you have to make the check.

Here is a sample flaw which I thought captured the spirit pretty well, but also seemed like something worth soliciting feedback on.

(Note, money listed is for a heavily deflated currency relative to our modern currency and the drugs are all legal)

Addiction (-1 to -20 points)

You are addicted to a substance which you must use or suffer withdrawals.   How often you make the check is determined by your frequency.   When the listed time has elapsed you must use the substance or obtain the substance and use it if possible.    If you succeed in not using the substance, or it’s impossible then follow the withdrawal rules below.

Withdrawals come in both light and sever forms.  You must make a Will check to overcome the Severe form, and doing so reduces your addiction “frequency” by one level, however the next check is +1d.  When you have succeeded at the 1 Week mark, you are no longer addicted.  Failure to stop the severe form gives the severe and the light penalties.

The frequency of use modifies the Character Point cost.

Frequency Character Points Standard of Living Cost
1 Hour 2.5x 24x listed cost
2 Hours 2.2x 12x listed cost
3 Hours 1.9x 8x listed cost
5 Hours 1.6x 4x listed cost
10 Hours 1.3x 2x listed cost
1 Day 1x 1x listed cost
2 Days 0.7x .5x listed cost
3 Days 0.4x .3x listed cost
1 Week 0.1x .2x listed cost

Addictions have a monetary cost as well, and that can create problems for the character.  To figure out the cost per day reference the “Standard of Living Cost” in the table.
